Bio: Mr. Chavez brings more than 20 years of experience as an LAUSD educator in South Central Los Angeles. Working with John Adams MS as a National Board Certified English Teacher, Mr. Chavez worked as an English 7-8 classroom teacher, serving as Department Chair, representing Local District Central as a member of the MS Textbook Adoption Committee, and supporting new teachers as a BTSA Support Provider and Master Teacher for University students. In addition, Mr. Chavez supported the community and the arts by creating and sponsoring LKR JAMS! - an after school club focused on teaching students how to work together in a rock band setting. Organizing 17 consecutive End of the Year Rock Concerts, his bands have gone on to perform for LAUSD Ground Breaking Ceremonies, performed at the Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Theater, and have made an appearance at the Grammy Museum. Outside of the classroom, Mr. Chavez has served as a MS College and Career Instructional Coach, an Intervention Coordinator, a Lead Professional Development Facilitator, the Foundations School Wide PBIS Chair, and the WASC Chair. Here at Green Design STEAM Academy, Mr. Chavez is the AP Over Special Education, responsible for Master Scheduling, supports the Tutoring and Credit Recovery Programs, coordinates Substitute Teacher Assignments, and collaborates with Dr. Lupejkis on monitoring the GDSA Budgets. He is a firm believer that we all share responsibility in leading the work to make decisions in the best interest of students and families. Mr. Chavez is excited about the opportunity to work with the Green Design Team to develop educational leaders and college and career ready global students who are aware of community and environmental needs. He enjoys quality time with his wife, children, and friends while carving out time for his musical interests and aspirations. During breaks from school, Mr. Chavez enjoys family trips traveling through California to San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, and the National Parks while making time to visit his favorite venues to attend musical concerts.
