East Asia Origins at GDSA

The East Asia Origins Club at Green Design STEAM Academy  is a club designed for students who want to learn more about Asian cultures. Students do not have to be of an Asian background to join the club. The EAO Culture Club welcomes anyone who wants to join. The club offers a great opportunity to meet new people and learn about Asian cultures and customs. Our purpose is to teach other students about the different traditional and pop cultures, foods, folk tales, and languages from different Asian countries. We will be focusing on China, Japan, and Korea, which is connected to East Asia Origins: 1800 hosted by USC UC-China Institute. our topics will be China in the 19th century, K-pop and the two Koreas, Meiji Restoration, Japan and WWII, Modern China, Environment, health, and Aging, East Asia through Film, and more. We will talk about traditional clothing, the modern “pop” culture (music, clothing, anime, movies), culinary varieties, famous folktales, and the basic languages, such as the alphabet, greetings, and Chinese writing system. Our focus is also to bring together students. Although we all have different backgrounds and stories, we will share experiences and learn together. The EAO Club will fundraise and collect sponsors in order to obtain visitors from our sister schools in China to share our knowledge and learning experiences with each other.
